Help us to help you better
We have had may emergency support calls that
might have been avoided if certain precautions had been taken. The
following are a few things you can do to help us help you. Make sure your modem works.
Many times we'll get a call at night or over the weekend and we'll have to
go on site because the modem is not working properly. Maintaining
your modem support not only saves you money (phone/modem support is much
less expensive than an on site visit), but it can save valuable
time. We can resolve many problems in minutes over the modem versus
the time it can take to get a technician on site - for many of you, it can
take hours just for us to get to your restaurant. Make sure your equipment is protected. Make sure your hardware is on a dedicated, grounded outlet and invest
in line conditioners and battery backups. Surge strips will work to
some extent, but remember: "you get what you pay for". If you
buy a $5 surge strip, your getting $5's worth of protection. If you
buy a more expensive means of surge protection, you will save yourself a
lot of money and aggravation in the long run. When looking for surge
protection, look for a product that offers some sort of warranty - some
companies (such as American Power Conversions) will
warranty any equipment plugged into their product. Have your PC maintained on a regular basis. For example, in DOS check to make sure you are not getting a low on
memory by loading Digital Dining to the Main Menu and looking a the upper
right corner of the screen; Digital Dining will display how many
megs are still free on your hard drive. When this number gets below
10 megs, you need to call us to free up some memory. Something else
you can do is to clean your PC by vacuuming out the dust (dust is one of
the biggest reasons computers crash). Also, don't forget to check to
make sure your PC fan is still running. Just put your hand behind
the top half of your PC, you will feel the air being circulated. If
you don't feel any air, call us!
If you do need to call us for emergency support, there are a couple
of things you can do to help us both:
Please remember to include your name, your company's name,
the phone number where you can be reached, and a brief description
of the problem.
Please be ready to spend anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes working on
the problem. If we call you back and you can't talk to us, then
your emergency will be superceded. You will have to call us back
when you have time to work with us.
As always, our goal is to offer you
the best possible support. By working together as a team, we can
make any emergency situation a lot less painful.
Thank You.
