Once again, lightning season is upon us and as many of you know, lightning can cause power outages and surges strong enough to fry your hardware. Your best protection is to put battery backups with line conditioning on your file server and some sort of surge protection, like a surge strip or battery backup with line conditioning on all of your workstations.
If you do lose your power for an extended period of time, go around & unplug all of your equipment. The return of electricity can send a power surge through your lines strong enough to blow any of your equipment. The last thing you need after being without power is to lose a printer or PC once the power has been restored.
Once the power is back, plug in & turn on your file server, then go to all of your workstations & plug them back in as well and everything should come back up just fine. If you do have a problem after a lightning storm, be sure to mention the storm - it will be crucial for us in diagnosing the problem.
